Most clean sheets in Uganda Premier League: season leaders and goalkeepers

The 2026/27 snapshot showed NEC and Entebbe UPPC on six team shutouts each. Separately, NEC confirms Ssebwalunyo won the 2025/26 Golden Glove with 13 in 23 appearances.

Most clean sheets in Uganda Premier League this season

For the active 2026/27 campaign, the UgandaFootball team-statistics snapshot checked on 5 November 2026 showed NEC and Entebbe UPPC on six clean sheets each. That is a team ranking, not a verified individual goalkeeper leaderboard.

For the completed 2025/26 season, NEC led the same provider's team table with 17. NEC's official club statement separately confirms that Hannington Ssebwalunyo won the 2025/26 Golden Glove with 13 clean sheets in 23 league appearances. The different totals measure different things and must not be merged.

This article keeps the season, unit of measurement and observation date visible. It is a researched snapshot, not an automatically refreshing live clean-sheet feed.

“Who is leading with clean sheets in the Premier League?” needs both a league and a season. The English Premier League and UEFA Champions League have different players and records. This guide concerns Uganda's domestic top division.

For the points context, see the completed UPL table for 2025/26 and the current Uganda Premier League standings guide. Goal prevention and league position are connected, but they are not the same statistic.

Completed 2025/26 team clean-sheet table

The following leading totals come from UgandaFootball's 2025/26 team-statistics page. The percentage uses 30 recorded league matches per club.

ClubTeam clean sheetsRecorded league matchesTeam shutout rate
NEC173056.7%
Entebbe UPPC163053.3%
SC Villa163053.3%
Vipers153050.0%
Kitara143046.7%
Maroons133043.3%
BUL123040.0%
Express123040.0%
KCCA123040.0%
URA123040.0%

These are club shutouts. They do not establish that the first-choice goalkeeper played every minute of each match. Substitutions, rotation and provider eligibility rules can make the sum of goalkeeper awards differ from a team total.

A 0–0 contributes a team clean sheet to both sides. A 1–0 contributes one to the winner. A 3–1 contributes none, even though the winner may have played well and conceded only once.

The table should therefore not be read as a complete defensive-performance ranking. It measures how often the opponent scored zero, not how many chances were allowed or how difficult the saves were.

Ssebwalunyo's 2025/26 Golden Glove record

NEC's 10 August 2026 announcement says Ssebwalunyo made 23 appearances, played 2,070 league minutes and kept 13 clean sheets. It explicitly identifies him as the StarTimes Uganda Premier League Golden Glove winner.

His individual shutout rate from those figures is 13 ÷ 23 × 100 = 56.5%. That is close to NEC's 56.7% team rate, but the similarity does not make the records interchangeable.

The club also announced a contract extension until 2029. That supports the contract duration reported at announcement time, not an undisclosed wage or a guaranteed future starting place.

The same source contains an inconsistent all-competitions clean-sheet sum. This guide uses its clearly separated league figures and does not repeat the inconsistent combined total. Even official sources need arithmetic checks.

Clean sheets are not the same as fewest goals conceded

Vipers and SC Villa each conceded 17 league goals in the final 2025/26 standings. NEC conceded 22 but recorded more team clean sheets in the provider's table.

This is possible because the goals can be distributed differently. A team might concede several goals in a small number of matches while keeping many shutouts; another might concede one goal in many matches.

As an illustrative example, across five games, conceded totals of 0, 0, 0, 0, 5 give four clean sheets and five goals against. Totals of 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 give no clean sheets and the same five goals against. Neither sequence is being attributed to a UPL club.

The first distribution may look excellent in a Golden Glove race but still include a damaging heavy defeat. The second can be compatible with five wins if the team scores enough. Match outcomes and goal prevention need to be analysed together.

A usable framework for goalkeeper evaluation

Start with what the dataset actually records. Clean sheets and goals against are useful summaries, but they are affected by the entire defensive structure.

MetricCalculation or inputMain limitation
Clean-sheet rateShutouts divided by eligible appearancesDepends on team defence and eligibility rules
Save percentageSaves divided by shots on target facedShot quality varies
Goals conceded per 90Conceded goals × 90 divided by minutesDoes not isolate goalkeeper responsibility
Post-shot goals preventedPost-shot expected goals faced minus goals concededRequires reliable shot placement data and a specified model
High-claim successSuccessful claims divided by relevant attemptsDefinitions and opportunity selection matter
Distribution accuracySuccessful passes divided by attemptsRisk, distance and pressure must be considered

A club facing few shots can keep many clean sheets without requiring numerous difficult saves. A keeper behind a vulnerable defence may make exceptional stops yet concede regularly.

Do not calculate save percentage without the shots-on-target denominator. Do not label ordinary expected goals as post-shot expected goals. Pre-shot chance quality and the placement of the eventual shot measure different parts of the sequence.

Defensive structure: what can and cannot be inferred

A compact midfield can reduce access to central shooting positions. Full-back positioning, centre-back cover and set-piece organization can change the types of chances a goalkeeper faces. These are analytical mechanisms, not claims that a particular UPL team used a documented formation in every match.

To assess them, review match footage and event data. Record where possession was lost, whether the keeper faced a one-on-one, and whether an opponent was unmarked at a set piece.

Separating situations prevents misleading conclusions. A keeper conceding after an unchallenged close-range finish has not necessarily performed worse than one saving a weak long shot. Equally, a rare handling error can matter even in a clean-sheet victory if teammates rescue the situation.

The 2025/26 top-scorer analysis uses the same evidence principle: do not invent advanced metrics from a basic leaderboard. Both attacking and defensive evaluation improve when the limits of the source are visible.

Historical and international comparisons

A season-by-season comparison must use the same unit: individual goalkeeper shutouts with individual goalkeeper shutouts, or club shutouts with club shutouts. A mixed table can create a false record.

For English Premier League benchmarks, consult the league's own player statistics and specify the season. Petr Čech's historic Chelsea records belong to England's competition, not Uganda's. Manuel Neuer's European competition history likewise needs UEFA's match and competition definitions.

This guide does not claim an all-time Ugandan clean-sheet record because the captured sources do not establish a complete career archive. It also does not fabricate a “UPL clean sheets PDF.” The source pages are web records; printing an article produces a personal copy, not an official federation certificate.

Older queries such as “Premier League clean sheets 2023/24” need a dated archive. Replacing the season selector while leaving the article heading unchanged can produce a plausible but incorrect comparison.

Clean-sheet probability and betting-market limits

A historical shutout frequency is not a guaranteed next-match clean-sheet probability. Opposition quality, venue, availability and expected match state can change the outlook.

In a simple illustrative Poisson model, if an opponent's expected goals are 0.8, its zero-goal probability is exp(-0.8), approximately 44.9%. That is a mathematical example, not an estimated UPL fixture probability or a betPawa price.

The same idea helps separate markets. A home clean sheet can occur in a 4–0 result, which is over 2.5 goals. Under 2.5 can occur in a 1–1 result, which gives neither side a clean sheet. A strong shutout record therefore does not automatically imply that every match is an under.

Compare a model probability with the bookmaker's price only after understanding margin, market definitions and uncertainty. This article does not offer staking instructions or guaranteed selections. Betting is optional and losses are possible.

Checking a live score and preserving a dated snapshot

For “Uganda Premier League clean sheets today,” first confirm the match has finished. A 0–0 score after 70 minutes is not a completed clean sheet.

  1. Select the correct competition and season.
  2. Check the source's update time and whether the match status is final.
  3. Confirm the goalkeeper's participation rather than assuming the usual starter played.
  4. Apply the provider's eligibility rules.
  5. Record corrections, awarded results and abandoned matches separately.

For wider grassroots context, the Masaza Cup season review describes another Ugandan competition. Its goalkeeper totals must not be added to UPL totals unless an explicitly labelled all-competitions study is intended.

Frequently asked questions

Who has the most clean sheets in Uganda Premier League this season?

The 2026/27 team snapshot checked on 5 November 2026 showed NEC and Entebbe UPPC on six each. The captured current individual table did not establish a goalkeeper leader.

Who won the 2025/26 Golden Glove?

NEC's official announcement identifies Hannington Ssebwalunyo as the winner, with 13 clean sheets in 23 league appearances and 2,070 minutes.

Why does NEC have 17 clean sheets but Ssebwalunyo has 13?

Seventeen is the provider's completed club total; thirteen is the individual goalkeeper total stated by NEC. Different players and eligibility rules can contribute to the difference.

Does a clean sheet mean under 2.5 goals?

No. A 4–0 result includes a clean sheet but is over 2.5. A 1–1 is under 2.5 but gives neither team a clean sheet.

Is there an official Uganda Premier League clean-sheets PDF?

No official downloadable PDF was verified in this research. The linked provider and club pages are the evidence used here.
