Rwenzori Marathon 2026 registration: dates, fees and next edition

The 2026 race took place on 22 August. The organizer announced 4 September 2027 for the next edition; its registration page checked on 5 November remained closed.

Rwenzori Marathon 2026 registration: completed race, next edition confirmed

The Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon 2026 took place on 22 August 2026 in Kasese. Registration for that edition is historical, not a current purchase opportunity. In a release dated 28 October 2026, the organizer announced the next race for Saturday 4 September 2027. The registration page checked on 5 November still said registration was closed.

This guide separates the 2026 entry and course record from preparations for the next edition. It covers where to find the genuine registration form, how to interpret displayed fees, what the organizer actually confirmed about the Equator start and how to avoid confusing Kasese's road race with high-mountain trekking.

Latest verified position: A 2027 race date has been announced. An announced date is not the same as an open registration window or a guaranteed place.

What the organizer confirmed for 2026

The 7 April 2026 operational review described a measured course, race-support planning and a larger finish arena. It stated that World Athletics-certified measurer Gavin Wright had measured the course using calibrated bicycle-counter equipment.

The release offered four categories: 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km. That matters because an older event summary listing only three categories may omit the 10km option. It also makes clear that participants did not all start at the same place or cover the same route.

The organizer's October retrospective says the 2026 edition attracted runners from 49 countries and was Uganda's first World Athletics Label Road Race. Those are attributed organizer statements. A Label is not a claim that every recreational category has identical competition requirements or that any participant receives automatic entry to another international marathon.

The 2026 route: Equator, Kasese and different starts

The organizer described the marathon beginning at the Equator in Kikorongo, within Queen Elizabeth National Park. Runners covered approximately 20km on the main road towards Kasese, with savannah and Lake George on one side and the Rwenzori foothills on the other.

The route subsequently returned to Kasese, and all four distances converged at the finish. The 21km event started in Kasese Town and joined the latter part of the marathon route. This is why arranging transport to “the marathon start” without naming a category can cause a serious mistake.

Category described in 2026 releaseStart information verifiedPlanning implication
42kmEquator at KikorongoSeparate start-line transport needs attention
21kmKasese TownDo not travel to the full-marathon start by assumption
10kmCategory confirmed; detailed start not established hereFollow the distance-specific briefing
5kmCategory confirmed; detailed start not established hereCheck recreational entry and meeting arrangements

The source does not support a fabricated climb to Mount Stanley, a mountain summit finish or an exact elevation-gain figure. “Rwenzori” identifies the region and scenery; this road race is not equivalent to a technical expedition in the high mountains.

A route map or GPS track should state its edition and category. Do not use a 2026 course file as a binding 2027 route until the organizer confirms it. Roadworks, operational changes and new finish arrangements can alter the course.

Registration dates and fee evidence

The April release said 2026 early-bird pricing ran until 1 July 2026. That deadline is historical. It should not be displayed as an upcoming registration deadline in November or copied into a 2027 sales page without verification.

The currently accessible registration page showed a September 2027 date and a closed-registration notice. It also displayed fee amounts, including UGX 50,000 and UGX 60,000 for some EAC citizen/resident categories. Those displayed amounts alone do not establish the full 2026 fee schedule or an active 2027 offer.

There are several reasons not to collapse all those figures into one “Rwenzori Marathon registration fee”: distance, residence classification, sale phase and package inclusions can differ. A page can also retain prices while registrations are closed.

How to find and complete the official form

  1. Open the organizer's own website and follow its registration navigation.
  2. Check the race date and current open/closed notice before entering personal details.
  3. Select the correct distance and participant category.
  4. Read age limits, declarations, transfer rules and cancellation conditions.
  5. Confirm the final currency, fee and merchant before authorizing payment.
  6. Save the organizer's entry confirmation and transaction reference.
  7. Review kit-collection instructions and the distance-specific race briefing when issued.

If someone offers to complete the form for you, do not disclose a mobile-money PIN or one-time approval code. Be cautious with screenshots advertising a discount that the official checkout does not show.

For lost confirmations, use the organizer's official contact process and the original transaction reference. Repeated payments are not a safe way to force a registration record to appear. Likewise, do not buy another person's bib unless the organizer explicitly permits and records the transfer.

Kit collection and start-line logistics

A participant kit and a correctly registered bib have different purposes. Clothing identifies the event; a bib connects a runner to a category, timing record and emergency information. Wearing a shirt does not establish that the timing system has registered you.

Before travelling, confirm the collection window, venue, identification requirements and whether another person may collect on your behalf. Check the name and category immediately. If a timing chip is supplied, follow the wearing instructions instead of folding, cutting or placing it wherever convenient.

Arrange transport for your actual start. The 2026 full-marathon Equator start was outside Kasese Town, while the half marathon began in town. Ask whether transport is included, ticketed separately or self-arranged. Do not assume that a hotel shuttle reaches every category start.

For accommodation, check travel time to both the collection area and the relevant start. The organizer's 2027 release explicitly discussed room pressure during August and its decision to return to September. That context supports booking carefully, not a claim that a particular hotel or room rate is guaranteed.

Prize money: keep 2026 and 2027 separate

The organizer's August 2026 release announced a UGX 252 million total purse, with UGX 40 million for each marathon winner and UGX 15 million for each half-marathon winner. It described equal prizes for men and women and payment down to sixth place.

The October 2027 announcement increased the advertised total to UGX 290 million, the marathon winner's prize to UGX 50 million, and the payment depth to eight places in the marathon and half marathon. The half-marathon winner's advertised amount remained UGX 15 million.

October 2026, for 2027 raceUGX 50 millionUGX 15 millionEight places

Prize eligibility, competition rules, verification and any deductions need the final regulations. These amounts are not a guaranteed financial return for an entrant, and ordinary registration should not be marketed as an investment.

Results and timing: use the correct category

Find results through the organizer's site or the relevant governing-body record. Check distance, date, category and finishing status before quoting a position. A marathon ranking and a half-marathon ranking cannot be combined into one podium.

This research found differing winner/time claims across third-party reporting and a World Athletics results listing. Because the primary keyword concerns registration, this guide does not choose an unsupported podium merely to fill a results table. The linked records let readers check their own category.

Gun time, chip time, split times and position can answer different questions. Missing a split does not automatically mean disqualification, and a provisional result may be corrected after a timing query. Use the organizer's enquiry process with your bib number and evidence.

Do not infer an elite runner's final position from a social-media photograph at one checkpoint. Equally, a personal watch may help a timing enquiry but does not replace the official result or competition decision.

Preparation for Kasese's conditions

Prepare for the course and expected conditions rather than the mountain name. The 2026 route description supports training for sustained road running and the logistics of a separated start, not technical climbing skills.

Build training gradually and use sessions to test familiar breakfast foods, drinks, shoes and carrying arrangements. Consider how long you expect to be outside, not just the pace you can maintain for a short run.

Your personal plan should include an option to slow, walk where permitted or withdraw. Persistent dizziness, confusion, chest pain or other concerning symptoms warrant medical help. Do not continue because a time target feels more important than safety.

For the next edition, the organizer proposed travel on Friday 3 September 2027, racing on Saturday 4 September, recovery activities on Sunday and departure on Monday. Those are suggested planning dates, not compulsory packages or medical recovery prescriptions.

If your priority is a community trail-running holiday rather than this road race, compare the Masaka Uganda Marathon registration guide. If you are checking Kampala, the MTN Kampala Marathon guide explains why old sponsor announcements cannot establish a current date. Frequently asked questions

Is Rwenzori Marathon 2026 registration still open?

No current 2026 entry should be inferred from an old form: that race took place on 22 August 2026. The organizer's registration page checked on 5 November said registration was closed.

When is the next Rwenzori Marathon?

The organizer announced Saturday 4 September 2027 in an official release dated 28 October 2026. Confirm registration opening separately.

What distances were offered in 2026?

The organizer's April 2026 release listed 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km. Different categories had different starts, so the full-marathon Equator start should not be assumed for every runner.

Does the marathon climb Mount Stanley?

The verified 2026 description is a road route beginning at the Equator in Kikorongo and continuing towards Kasese. It does not describe a Mount Stanley summit race.

How much is registration?

Check the current official category and checkout. The page captured in November displayed some EAC fees of UGX 50,000 and UGX 60,000 while registration was closed; these do not establish a complete 2026 price schedule or an active offer.
