Home vs Away Splits
The standard league table is statistically misleading . Many sides are top-4 at home and bottom-4 away (or vice versa). Splitting the table fixes this.
Why the combined table lies Every team plays half its games at home, half away — but home and away performances are wildly different. A team that’s 6th overall might be 2nd at home and 14th away. That’s a completely different fixture profile.
The home-only table Strips the table to home matches only. Use it to evaluate the home team in any fixture.
The away-only table Same logic, away matches only. Use it for the visiting side.
The hidden edges - A top-3 home side vs a bottom-5 away side is a huge mismatch even if the combined gap is small - A team rising fast in away form is a leading indicator of an overall rise - Wide home/away gaps signal fragile sides — under-bet against stronger travelling opponents
How we use splits Our engine pulls the home table and away table separately and compares the home team’s home-table position to the away team’s away-table position. A 5+ position gap triggers a "decisive edge" flag in the winner model.
